LCB on tumblr

You can now also find my translations on tumblr. The URL is

A word of caution though: I imported all 400-something of my old posts from this blog to that address yesterday and the day before yesterday, and while the dates are shown correctly on the tumblr blog itself, the tumblr Dashboard looks at the time all the entries actually appeared on tumblr (i.e. within the past 48 hours). So if you decide to follow my account, be prepared that your Dashboard might be filled up with my blog entries.

12 April 2011 - Comic #396

This comic also appeared in SEXE, AMOUR et déconfiture on page 22.

8 April 2011 - Comic #393

This is the a comic from Tarrin's latest book SEXE, AMOUR et déconfiture (eng. "SEX, LOVE and failure"). It's basically about Tarrin's sex adventures and sex life anecdotes from his friends. So it's not exactly suited for children.
The order in which he posted the pages on his blog is different from the order in which they appear in the book. The above comic for example appears on page 19 in the book and is titled "Nathalie and her Pandora's Box".
When I'm done translating all the pages, I'll upload them all in a single folder again like I did for Tarrin's other two books. I haven't checked yet but I think he posted most of the pages on his blog minus some artwork between the chapters.

7 April 2011 - Comic #392

"Which one do you prefer?"
Here's the animal version of yesterday's comic.

Tarrin asked his readers which version they preferred. 28 out of 30 said they liked the lemur version better.

Yes, it's basically the same comic I posted yesterday, only that today's features human characters instead of animals.

31 March 2011 - Comic #386

This is an idea for a new comic Tarrin proposed to Dupuis which got rejected. There are three pages in total.

14 March 2011 - Comic #385

This picture later became the cover of the 2012 book Le parcours d'un Puceau which contained the first Maki story Un cœur de lémurien.
In case you've been wondering why the first Maki story was published in book form last, the reason was that Tarrin and whoever was in charge at Dupuis thought that the second story (Un lémurien en colo) and third story (Bravo la famille) would be more successful commercially than the first, so they decided to skip the first one.

21 February 2011 - Comic #383

Below is page 43 of the "A Lemur at Camp" book. I posted the first 35 pages of the book a short while ago. So here's a short summary of what happened on page 36 to 42:

After Daniel basically told them to steal from the other camp group, Hippo, Camel and the guy with the beak did exactly that - they stole everything they could find. Including a watch that Hippo gave to Alice (Maki's girlfriend). So the other group called the police. Meanwhile, Daniel and the rest of the group were doing the paraglide lottery Daniel talked about earlier. Being Maki's friend, he tried to rig the game in Maki's favour by drawing a paper slip out of the bag and proclaiming that it read "Maki". However, one of the girls standing behind him noticed the attempt and asked why he said "Maki" even though the name on the paper read "Hippo". Daniel replied he couldn't read it well because of the bad light and then went on to draw another one. That's where the page below starts.

14 February 2011 - Comic #382

This comic also appeared in Spirou magazine #3799.

It's the last Maki page. In fact, Tarrin said in a comment on his blog that there won't be any more Maki ever. So I guess this is it.

11 February 2011 - Comic #381

This one's about a 24-year old guy from Morocco named Abderrahmane Semgane, who was supposed to be expelled from France because he had been living there for 10 years but had no visa or French passport. To support him staying in France, French comic artists got together and drew the above pics.

2 February 2011 - Comic #378

This comic also appeared in Spirou magazine #3799.

Here's the thing: There actually is a book called "Les basiliques aujourd'hui". It was written in 1998 by a guy named Jean-Claude Tarrin(!!). Seems to be the only book this person's ever written. It's about basilicas in France and Italy.

31 January 2011 - Comic #376

"ATTENTION, COLLECTOR!
This week (Wednesday, February 2), there'll be a special issue of Spirou magazine with two different covers!!!
Indeed, Dupuis spared neither cost nor effort to announce the return of Marsupilami in my new adventure of Spirou and Fantasio."
"Nah, just kidding, there is no Spirou adventure by me nor the yellow long-tailed critter inside but four pages of unpublished epilogue of Maki
to celebrate the release of the "Bravo la famille" album."

Apparently, when Tarrin was 14, he sent a letter with the drawings and caricatures you see above to Franquin and actually got a reply. Franquin took the time to mark the parts he liked and didn't like and also gave him some advice (on the page with Gaston's face).

This comic was also published in Maki - Book 1 - Un lémurien en colo on page 35.

Unfortunately, this is not only the last comic Tarrin posted in 2010, it's also the last one from this book.
There's a four-page Valentine's Day special coming up soon though.
